Our Oakland, NJ cosmetic dentistry practice offers a number of teeth whitening options, including at home and in-office whitening. In-office whitening can be done with laser or light system and it can be done as little as an hour.

DR. BUCHER: Tooth whitening is a way to change the shade and the color of your teeth. It doesn’t change the contours like veneers do, but for people that have a nice smile but their teeth are just a little dark, maybe a little dingy, they’re big coffee drinkers, tea drinkers, red wine drinkers, there’s stain that gets into the enamel. There’s two ways that you can bleach your teeth. You can bleach it at home overnight, and that works very well. It takes about two weeks. Or then we have two different in-office bleaching systems. One is with a laser, one is with a light. Patients come in, it’s about an hour and a half, and when they’re done they have their new shade, and it’s just a whole new way to brighten your smile. Some patients experience some sensitivity for a day or two after, but that’s really the only downside. There’s a small percentage of the population that doesn’t bleach at all, maybe 5% of the population, but you really don’t know that until you bleach your teeth, but it’s really for anyone. Anywhere from someone in their mid-teens all the way up through however old you want to be.
