DR. BUCHER: Invisalign is an orthodontic procedure, done many times in a general dentist’s office. It’s a way to basically have braces and move your teeth into the proper position to improve your smile, your bite, and your function, without wearing braces and wires. There’s aligners that are worn that are very resilient plastic, and it moves the teeth over a period of time. You wear a series of them over however long your procedure will take. It’s really for anyone. They’re treating Invisalign now all the way down into early teens, all the way through seniors, anyone that really wants to move their teeth around. Before Invisalign you had braces, many times a couple of years. Many Invisalign cases run a year to 18 months. Some of the more complicated ones can run two years, but that’s not generally the norm. No wires, no brackets, they’re more comfortable to wear, and many times if you’re very close to the person in front of them, you can’t even see that they have the aligners in their mouth. You wear them all the time, except when you eat or drink, and it really is a very beneficial way to move your teeth. I had braces before. If I ever needed my teeth realigned again, or if I had never done it and I needed it done now, there’s now way that I would not do Invisalign.
