Candidates for Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers north NJ Porcelain veneers can be used to treat a variety of dental imperfections, resulting in a smile that looks natural and outstanding.

  • Heredity and lifestyle habits—such as drinking soda, coffee, and tea—can lead to dull or discolored tooth enamel.  Dental veneers restore a dazzling, white shade to teeth that have become discolored over time. When teeth whitening treatments are unable to remove deeply embedded stains, resurfacing teeth with beautiful porcelain veneers may be the answer.
  • Chips or cracks, whether caused by trauma or simple aging, can be concealed with porcelain veneers, leaving your teeth looking flawless.
  • Spaces between teeth, or diastema, can be reduced with dental veneers.
  • Uneven teeth resulting from wear and tear or habitual grinding (known as “bruxing,” which in turn can result in TMJ disorder) can be remedied with porcelain veneers.

While porcelain veneers are considered a cosmetic dentistry procedure, they can have functional benefits as well. When placed over a severely damaged tooth, a dental veneer can protect the weakened unit from further decay.

Placing Porcelain Veneers

The first step toward a beautiful smile is to choose which porcelain veneers are right for you. Dr. Bucher will consult with you to determine which size, shape, and color of veneers would best accentuate your unique features. Once the attributes of the veneers have been determined, you will begin the veneer placement process.

The First Step

To prepare for the placement of your porcelain veneers, Dr. Bucher will remove enamel from the tooth, or teeth, being treated in order to accommodate the veneer. Since dental veneers are approximately half a millimeter thick, only a small amount of enamel needs to be removed.

Because it will take time to custom-craft your permanent veneers in a dental laboratory, Dr. Bucher will likely fit you with temporary veneers in the meantime. These temporary veneers will protect your teeth, and give you an idea of what your permanent veneers will look like.

The Second Step

When you return for the placement of your new porcelain veneers, you will be given a light anesthetic to reduce any discomfort associated with the procedure. Dr. Bucher will remove the temporary veneers, and use dental cement to bond the final veneers to your teeth. The dental cement is hardened through exposure to a special light, ensuring that your veneers are stable.

Because porcelain is harder than enamel, and resistant to staining, your beautiful new veneers will last for years with proper care.
